There are two main ways to make CBD coconut oil at home.
Method 2: Mix 500 milligrams of CBD isolate powder with 20 milliliters of coconut oil in a jar or tincture bottle. Stir to combine. This yields about 25 milligrams CBD per milliliter of oil.
Keep in mind: We don’t have all the data yet, but full-spectrum CBD extracts might be more effective than CBD isolates. That’s because full-spectrum brands contain a wider range of cannabis plant materials.
CBD-infused coconut oil is versatile AF.
You can use it to:

- Soothe sore muscles.
- Moisturize your skin.

Price key & how we chose
Here’s a pricing guide to help you pick your potion wisely. Prices are per mg of CBD.
$ = under $0.06
$$ = $0.06–$0.13
$$$ = over $0.13
CBD wasn’t legal in the United States until 2018. Because it’s a new thing — and since the industry isn’t tightly controlled by the FDA at the moment — CBD quality and potency varies, uhm, highly.
That’s why we’re only including CBD-infused coconut oils that have been tested by a third-party for CBD content, THC content, and overall purity.
We also picked brands that:
- contain 0.3% THC or less.
- have great customer reviews.
- are made with natural or organic ingredients
Lazarus Naturals offers a simple and affordable formula. It only has two ingredients: organic coconut oil and broad-spectrum CBD made from organic Oregon-grown hemp. At 1200 milligram of CBD per jar, it’s also a great deal.
Bonus: They offer discounts for vets and folks living on a low income.
Best-loved by customers
SunSoil’s affordable coconut oil is infused with full-spectrum CBD from organic, Vermont-grown hemp. The company grows, harvests, and processes its own hemp so you know you’re getting the good stuff.
Plus, it’s pet-friendly 🐱 🐶!
Best small batch
This small, family-run company was co-founded by chef and author Laurie Wolf. She was dubbed the “Martha Stewart of Marijuana Edibles” by The New York Times so you know this stuff’s legit 💯.
The full-spectrum oil combines organic, sun-grown Oregon hemp and organic virgin coconut. The final product is incredibly smooth and fab for your skin or consumption.
Best environmentally-friendly choice
Green Cherry Organics is a wellness-oriented CBD brand based Colorado (the heartland of the hemp industry). They only use environmentally-friendly, zero-waste growing methods from seed to sale.
Pro tip: Use the extract as a moisturizer. Reviewers raved about its glowy effects.
Best socially conscious choice
Ojai Energetics use cold-pressed coconut oil sourced from fair-trade, regenerative family farms in Indonesia. They then infuse it with organic and full-spectrum Colorado-grown hemp extract.
At 150 milligrams of CBD per jar, this oil isn’t that concentrated. But, you prob won’t need as much as other brands. The company uses proprietary colloidal technology which helps the CBD absorb faster and more efficiently.
Highest CBD content
This is the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am of CBD coconut oils — you get 123 milligrams of CBD in just a quarter teaspoon!
The high-potency oil is made with Colorado-grown hemp and contains a bit of cannabigerol (CBG) which is pretty much the mother of all cannabinoids. Plus, CBD and CBG might help boost each other’s signals, according to the entourage effect.
When it comes to taste, Blue Ridge Hemp’s Pumpkin Spice CBD Coconut Oil doesn’t disappoint. It’s got all your fave fall flavors like cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla bean.
But the standout star is definitely the coconut sugar. It’s delicious in coffee or tea… Or slather it on your morning muffin (we’re not judging).
THC PSA: It’s made with CBD isolate, a better choice if you want to avoid THC entirely.
