April is National Stress Awareness month. Stress may just be an inevitable part of getting out of bed every morning. In small amounts, the stuff helps us stay productive and focused. Too much makes us sick. But can we be addicted to it?

How does the grid roller work? I have seen those but never been clear on the benefits or how to use them.
from my experience, the actual "grids" give more of a targeted massage that resembles actually going to a masseuse! It's also awesome for travel...it's super light and hollow, so you can pack clothes inside of it. I 100% recommend it.
Myofascial release on the foam roller is best accomplished with the protocol described here:

not by just rolling back and forth over the sore parts.

My chiropractor recommended foam rolling due to my insanely tight hamstrings, hips, and lower back. I can tell you it absolutely works. Foam rolling replicates ART (active release technique) which helps loosen up the muscle fascia (covering of the muscle) and leads to a great stretch and increased flexibility. Good stuff!
I love my foam roller. It's really helped to correct my lordosis (sway back -basically my back is curved funky) by loosening up my hip flexors. There is more that can be done with a foam roller than rolling, though. Just putting weight on the roller where you feel painful spots is beneficial. Rotating your arms and legs and changing direction of the roller is also beneficial, as is lying on top of the roller and moving your arms up and down like when you're making a snow angel.

I haven't tried the Grid, but I have used the black Rumble Roller and I love it. Very stiff. I rolled on a regular foam roller the other day and it felt like a fluffy pillow
Thank you, thank you! I've been looking for a concise and informative foam-rolling article. This is perfect. I'll be investing in a roller to get started. :)
