It bugs me that I can never figure out how much water I’m supposed to use since I always buy these oats in bulk and have no back-of-the-can recipe.

  • Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients (5)

  • 1 cup McCann’s steel cut oats
  • 4 1/4 cups water
  • vanilla
  • some salt
  • dried fruit

Instructions

  1. I’m not sure if the water needs to be boiling when you put the oats in and can find no definitive recipe online (it all seems to be microwave and shortcut tips). But I’ll keep looking and write it in when I find it.
  2. OK This is from the back of Mccann’s can: Into 4 cups of briskly boiling water sprinkle one cup of oatmeal, stirring well. When the porridge is smooth and beginning to thicken, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. To ensure characteristic rich nutty flavor, avoid overcooking.
