S’mores are a campfire classic, but why not change up your dessert game the next time you go camping and try these decadent banana boats? All you need is a banana, some tinfoil, and whatever sweet or savory fillings you choose. Staying at home? You can make these even without a campfire: Simply place the prepared banana boats in a 425°F oven for 5 to 10 minutes. Or make them on the grill at your next BBQ.

  • Yield: 1 serving
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Total: 15 mins

Ingredients (2)

  • 1 large banana
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of toppings of your choice, alone or in combination: semisweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, mini marshmallows, peanut butter, caramel sauce, etc.

Instructions

  1. Slice an unpeeled banana lengthwise without cutting all the way through the top or bottom of the peel. Gently open it so it’s like a boat, then fill with the toppings of your choice, pressing them into the flesh without squishing. Wrap the banana tightly in foil.
  2. Cook in the coals of the campfire, away from any active flames, for about 10 minutes. Serve hot.
