Genetics might account for up to 33 percent of our happiness (or lack thereof), but that doesn’t mean we’re powerless to improve our own moods. Sometimes all it takes is a change in mindset — no matter how small — to turn a crappy day into a good one. To help you shift into a happier gear, we’ve rounded up five things from around the web that inspire and delight us, and we hope they’ll do the same for you. We’ll be sharing our favorite happiness-boosters each week, so be sure to check back — and share your own in the comments!
1. This store devoted to Guinea Pig Fashion
We’re not sure where we stand on the ethics of dressing animals in human attire. But we are confident that these guinea pigs look absurdly adorable in their fancy clothes.
2. This really (really, really) lazy cat on a treadmill
In general, we think that just showing up to the gym is half the battle. Apparently, this cat lost the other half. But watching it loll about on the treadmill (much to the chagrine of its human “trainer) is making us laugh so hard we’re getting an ab workout in our office chairs. At least somebody burned some calories…
3. This book featuring gorgeous photos of desserts that mimic works of modern art
Now we can gawk at food porn and feel cultured, too! These gorgeous, scrumptious works of culinary artistry are designed after whimsical pieces of modern art. We recommend ogling this mug of hot chocolate, which is influenced by Proposed Tetrahedral City (1965) by Buckminster Fuller, while sitting in awe of humanity’s capacity for creativity.
4. This site featuring grand failures in the world of cake-making
Now that you’ve seen some of the best the culinary art world has to offer, take a gander at some of the worst (like the terrifying baby-cum-ladybug above). Cake Wrecks is a website devoted to documenting when cakes go “horribly, hilariously wrong.” The images will shock, horrify, and make you laugh.
Regardless of your musical inclinations, there’s no arguing: This video is stylish. It’s also mesmerizing, catchy, and downright empowering. (Pro tip: Watch the whole way through for maximum happiness-inducing effect).
