When it comes to veggies, we always say the more, the better. But next time you hit the supermarket, don’t worry too much about whether to choose fresh or frozen: Studies suggest frozen veggies can be just as nutritious as fresh, and some frozen varieties can contain more nutrients than their fresh counterparts!

Feel like being picky? While it might not make a huge difference, veggies (and fruits) high in vitamins B and C are best fresh because fewer nutrients are lost in processing. In the fresh produce section, head for bell peppers, cabbage, citrus fruits, and berries.

When it’s time to get chilly, look for produce that freezes well and maintains high levels of nutrients. Carrots, leafy greens, and broccoli are good choices to stock up on!

The Takeaway: When it comes to fresh versus frozen veggies, there isn’t a whole lot of difference. But for the most nutrients, choose fresh peppers, citrus, and berries, and frozen carrots, leafy greens, and broccoli.

Put Down the Can

While fresh and frozen veggies stack up well against each other, they’re both better than canned produce, which often contains excess sodium and preservatives. If can is still king, check the label to avoid unwanted additives.
