We love Lane Bryant’s #ThisBody campaign, which shows curvy women strutting their stuff and celebrating their bodies with empowering mantras like this body is made for breaking the mold. But the ad won’t run on two major networks (NBC and ABC). When asked about its decision not to air the ad, NBC said the rough cut didn’t comply with indecency guidelines.
After watching the 30-second spot, we couldn’t help but think of similar lingerie ads (see below) that showed the same amount of skin, sultry voiceovers, and black and white photography—albeit with slimmer models. This double standard isn’t new. Lane Bryant faced a similar issue with ABC and Fox Family in 2010.
