Take a trip to the farmer’s market, ditch the junk food in the pantry, and stock up on fruits and veggies — it’s National Nutrition Month. Since 1980, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has set aside the entire month of March to educate, celebrate, and help people develop healthy eating habits.

This year — the 40th annual celebration of National Nutrition Month — the theme is “Eat right, your way, every day.” That means choosing wholesome, smart meals regardless of individual preferences (that scary green stuff won’t kill ya, we promise), cultural traditions, or health issues. To make healthy eating a reality for everyone, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages the public to promote NNM with contests, flyers, school presentations, and other initiatives. (For more nutrition information and resources, including links to MyPlate, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the United States Department of Agriculture, among many others, hop over to the official website or check out the National Nutrition Month Facebook page.)

We all know that we should be eating plenty of nutrition all-stars like fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes, low-fat dairy, and lean meats. But sometimes making the jump from the food pyramid to the weekday dinner table can be tough. To get started on a healthy path, here are some of our best healthy recipes, guides, and tips!
