John Gertsen, bar manager of Drink in Boston, gave us the recipe for this aptly named Prohibition-era cocktail.

This recipe was featured as part of our New Year’s Eve Speakeasy Party.

  • Yields: 1 drink
  • Total: Under 5 mins

Ingredients (6)

  • 1 1/4 ounces rye whiskey
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine
  • Dash angostura orange bitters
  • 1 lemon twist

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add whiskey, vermouth, lemon juice, grenadine, and bitters and shake vigorously until well chilled, about 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass, squeeze lemon twist over drink, and discard lemon.
