If you’re throwing any parties this season (ahem, sitting on the couch with your roommate totally counts), guacamole is a must-have. But before you grab one of those tubs of premade guac at the grocery store, try getting comfy with making it yourself. If you didn’t already know, guacamole recipes couldn’t be easier to assemble: Just smash together a few pantry staples and you’re good to go.

Since plain ol' guacamole may be a little boring, we'll show you three riffs on the classic: veggie, spicy, and fruity. OK, who brought the chips?

Guacamole, 3 Ways

Ready in: 10 minutes

Classic Guac “Base”

Start with the basics. You can't go wrong with this simple combo:

3 ripe avocados
1 large tomato, chopped
1/2 small red onion, minced
Juice of 1 lime
Salt and pepper

1. Halve the avocados, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a bowl. Mash roughly with a fork.

2. Mix in tomato, onion, lime juice, and salt and pepper to taste. Add more lime juice if necessary.

1. Make It a Veggie Guac

5 large kale leaves, stemmed and chopped fine
3/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped fine
2 tablespoons salsa verde
1 batch classic guac

1. Stir kale, cilantro, and salsa verde into prepared guac. Top with extra salsa verde.

2. Make It a Spicy Guac

1/2 jalapeño, seeds removed and minced
1-2 tablespoons chili-based hot sauce (we love Cholula)
1 batch classic guac

1. Stir jalapeño and hot sauce into prepared guacamole.

3. Make It a Salty and Sweet Guac

1 cup pineapple, diced
2 tablespoons bacon, diced
1 batch classic guac

1. Stir pineapple and bacon into prepared guac.

2. Serve inside a hollowed-out pineapple for extra points.
