It sounds counterintuitive, but getting out of bed during a bout of insomnia can actually help you fall asleep. Lying awake for hours, staring at the ceiling, and counting down the hours until the alarm goes off are all recipes for stress and wakefulness. If you don’t feel sleepy, don’t work yourself into a tizzy about it! Get out of bed and do a relaxing activity like gentle yoga, meditation, or listening to calm music. Wait until the eyes start drooping to get back into bed and try to fall asleep again.

Do It Today: When insomnia strikes, leave the bedroom and try to relax with some calming activities instead of worrying about a lack of sleep.

Sweet Dreams
