Favorite splurge food: Ice cream
Go-to fitness routine: My go-to fitness routine is running or group fitness classes. I've found that signing up for races keeps me motivated with running. Group fitness classes are the best because I am able to get the most bang for my caloric buck - strength training, step, yoga - I love them all and I can usually find one that fits into my busy schedule.
Favorite way to de-stress: Exercise! A good cardio session gives me endorphins, clears my head, and releases the tension I keep in my body.
Why I’m a greatist: I'm a greatist because getting healthy was the best decision I ever made for myself. By joining a gym shortly after graduating college, I was able to lose weight, gain confidence, and test my physical limits. As I began to become comfortable in the gym I started setting goals for myself. My goals started small -- run a mile (without feeling like I want to die) and have progressed to completing a marathon. Goal setting helps keep me in check and keeps me working.
I believe the power of communication is the greatest tool in becoming healthy. Sharing my experiences with food and fitness, despite how embarrassing they may be, helps me connect with a multitude of people. Our stories and our scenarios are different but we find ways to relate to each other.
I also understand that things don't always go as planned despite your best efforts. And that is totally okay. It wouldn't be a challenge if it came easily, right? I've battled injury while racing and unfavorable circumstances, but I push through knowing that the next time I tackle the task I'll be better. Every challenge is a learning experience.
