After two weeks of Olympic-related videos, we’re switching gears entirely. The above three minutes features 295 (count ‘em) movie clips skillfully arranged to complement the lyrical genius of of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” Each spliced clip, drawn from movies including “Full Metal Jacket,” “Apocalypse Now,” and “Toy Story,” overdubs each and every word of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s one-hit-wonder. We get that this song has its not so glorious bits, but it also includes an uplifting (pun entirely intended) series of affirmations about healthy backsides. Yes, daily exercise and the right diet can help anyone towards a ripe rear, but what does Sir Mix-a-Lot think?
Should we be concerned that someone had the tenacity to splice hundreds of clips in such a masterful manner? Or should we instead commend his film knowledge? Either way, this dude had some serious time on his hands. Warning: This video warrants a few viewings. You simply can’t absorb all of its genius in one take.
