What do you look for in a trusted healthy friend?

Everybody at Greatist has struggled with their own health at some point— I sure have, and I definitely still do. Getting back on the right path typically takes awesome motivation and trusted information — but there’s more to it that that. We need help deciding what we should be using, eating, doing, watching, and even spending money on to improve our health. And we need help remembering that life is better with laughter.

We’ve been listening to you, and it sounds like we’re not the only ones who feel this way. It’s time to celebrate healthy. We know healthy isn’t what you see on the covers of magazines —“six pack abs in six weeks,” “how to lose 5 pounds in 5 minutes,” and “the one weird sex trick to cure anxiety forever.” Those messages make us mad. “Healthy” is really about finding what works for you, one step at a time. And our hope is that we can be the healthy, trusted friends who help you get there.

Choices are hard — even with more options than ever. Heck, even McDonald’s has started offering side salads. Having the option to choose right or (on occasion) wrong is awesome, because at least you’re choosing. Sometimes a side salad will make you happy, and sometimes the waffle fries will. Sometimes a morning run is exactly what you need, but others it’s curling up on the couch with a pint of Ben ‘n Jerry’s. Being a greatist is all about knowing that happy is healthy — and healthy is all about finding a balance that works for you.

So smile, and celebrate (whether it’s with a bowl full of ice cream or a bowl full of kale) because we’re reclaiming what “healthy” means, one happy choice at a time. Everyone has their own journey, but we hope Greatist can be a healthy trusted friend you turn to for knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and actionable support. We’ve got your back.

Here’s to healthy!
