Sometimes all it takes is a change in mindset — no matter how small — to turn a crappy day into a good one. To help you shift into a happier gear, we’ve rounded up five things from around the web that inspire and delight us, and we hope they’ll do the same for you. We share our favorite happiness-boosters each week, so be sure to check back — and share your own in the comments below!

1. This slam poet who slams the cultural obsession with technology

Marshall Davis Jones is tired of exchanging touch screens for touching, and by the end of listening to his poem, “Touchscreen,” it’s likely you will be too.

2. This happy little baby sea lion

Just looking at her/him makes us happy.

3. These geese in China who are training to become police assistants

The K9 police force is so last week. Nowadays, police officers in rural parts of China are training geese to stand guard at police stations at night. Most recently, the geese effectively prevented a robbery by sounding an alarm (you might say they called “fowl”).

4. This heartfelt essay from the real-life fiancé of Piper from Orange is the New Black

Speaking of police. It seems everyone’s obsessed with the new Netflix original series, a dramedy based on the true story of a young woman imprisoned for transporting drug money nearly ten years prior to her sentence. This essay provides an even realer perspective into the experience of Piper’s fiancée, and (happily) demonstrates that love can’t be contained by bars.

5. This collection of 35 life lessons we can learn from animals

Two of our favorites? “You’re never too old to make a fort” and “Dessert tastes best when you really throw yourself into it.” (For evidence, check out that pig.)
