Ever blindly react to someone in a way that you later regretted? Maybe a rude (ahem) gesture when we got cut off in traffic or a nasty retort that we blurted out at a coworker? It happens—sometimes we just lose our cool.

In this video from the two-week course 10% Happier: Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, best-selling author Dan Harris explains how meditation can help us avoid these knee-jerk reactions and give us the superpower of being able to respond wisely in any tough situation.

To be clear, meditation doesn’t stop strong emotions from happening, and it’s not an overnight fix-all. But it can help you deal with these situations more gracefully. (At the very least, it can help you make that rude gesture when the person isn’t looking, or make the nasty retort under your breath.)
