This summer the Twittersphere is booming with #London2012 fever — and we have some seriously social media-savvy Olympians to thank. These all-American athletes are in tip-top shape, and keeping fans up-to-date every second along the way. Here are The Greatist Team’s picks for the best and brightest Twitter champs repping the USA.

@lolojones Lolo Jones, Track and Field (100-meter Hurdles) This quick-witted hurdler cracks jokes ‘round the clock — about larger feet (larger sponsorship logos), bigger chests (better finishes), and her ultimate psyche-out plan (flatulence). Bonus: She’ll engage with just about anyone who sends a tweet her way — haters included.

@AshtonJEaton Ashton Eaton, Track and Field (Decathlon) He’s the world’s greatest athlete and, according to his Twitter feed, an even nicer guy. The 24-year-old decathlete may be the obvious favorite, but his tweets to his fans, his girlfriend, and his competitors are as humble as pie.

@allysonfelix Allyson Felix, Track and Field (100 meters, 200 meters) Consider her the face — and the legs — of the U.S. Women’s Track and Field team. After a photo finish against Jeneba Tarmoh in the 100-meter qualifying finals (and more than her fair share of blowouts, too), there’s never a dull moment with Nike’s rising star.

@TysonLGay Tyson Gay, Track and Field (100 meters) Usain Bolt’s biggest competition puts it all out there, on the track and online. Follow along for the play-by-play; Gay is more plugged in than most megastars to his friends, fans, and fam.

@SanyaRichiRoss Sanya Richards-Ross, Track and Field (400 meters) Headed to her third consecutive Olympic Games, this 400-meter world champ is hungry for her first Olympic gold. Check her feed for daily inspiration, training updates, and plenty of talk about that hair.

@PrinceSpearmon Wallace Spearmon, Jr., Track and Field (200 meters) Want to buy some “bog boy” fireworks? Or maybe a GT-R sports car? There’s never a dull moment when tuned in to this Olympic-bound sprinter and self-proclaimed “People’s Champ.” Follow along for the ride — and plenty of pics (gold Saucony spikes included!).

@treyhardee Trey Hardee, Track and Field (Decathlon) Winner of the last two world titles, Hardee finished just behind fellow American decathlete Ashton Eaton in the Olympic trials. But it’s not all hard work for this Nike-sponsored star; Hardee hits up Twitter to post plenty of pictures (adorable dogs and fresh Nike kicks currently trending), and clue fans in on the life of a down-to-earth athlete.

@MichaelPhelps Michael Phelps, Swimming With 14 Olympic gold medals and nearly a quarter of a million followers, it’s safe to say that Michael Phelps is kind of a big deal. And who wouldn’t want to get one stroke closer to “The Phenomenon” as he heads into the Games with nothing — and everything — to prove?

@JessicaLong Jessica Long, Paralympic Swimming Know any other 20-year-olds with nine 2011 world championship gold medals, seven Paralympic gold medals, and world records in 20 events? We didn’t think so. Follow the Paralympic swimmer for inspirational mantras, red carpet photos (she recently won an ESPY!), and her unmatched enthusiasm for breakfast foods.

@NatalieCoughlin Natalie Coughlin, Swimming She’s one medal away from becoming the most decorated female athlete in Olympic history, but the California-cool Coughlin is taking it all in stride. Tune in for her #GoTeamUSA Twitter Q&A’s, along with regular updates on training, home cooking, and adventures in urban farming.

@ryanlochte Ryan Lochte, Swimming If anyone can test Phelps in the water cube, it’s this all-American superstar. Follow along for light-hearted tweets on life, competition, and the occasional Abercrombie-esque glamour shot (with or without the diamond-encrusted grillz). JEAH!

@LiaNeal Lia Neal, Swimming The Brooklyn-born phenom is breaking new ground for African-American swimmers in the U.S. The best part: At just 17-years-old, her fun, youthful outlook is as refreshing as can be. (See “Me when I do interviews.”)

@FranklinMissy Missy Franklin, Swimming To say Missy Franklin’s excited for London would be the ultimate understatement. Follow the bubbly 17-year-old (yup, another youngin’!) on her training, travels, and pre-meet rituals — including getting those nails did with her mom!

@zfrancia Susan Francia, Rowing Who knew rowing and comedy could so seamlessly mix? The two-time Olympian uses her razor-sharp sense of humor to share her takes on all things sports and pop culture.

@SerenaWilliams Serena Williams, Tennis Serena had to put water on her cereal this morning? And she can tweet in French? The fans have spoken (2.8 million of them): This tennis star’s surprisingly candid feed is well worth the follow.

@KingJames Lebron James, Basketball He’s a self-anointed king, NBA champ, and now headed to the Games to defend USA basketball once again. Love him or hate him, James is sure to make this one interesting on the court — and off.

@KDTrey5 Kevin Durant, Basketball Oklahoma City’s larger than life small forward sums up his online presence as the following: “IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL.” In fact, he’s at the crib now. Stay tuned for London, the KD way.

@CP3 Chris Paul, Basketball On the court, the Clippers point guard has quick feet and even quicker decision making. On Twitter, he’s just as sharp. Follow along for all things USA Basketball, along with some priceless pics of his adorable little son. (Yeah, he had us at “The Blake face.”)

@MooreMaya Maya Moore, Basketball According to ESPN’s Sport Science, the 2011 WNBA Rookie of the Year has hands that move faster than a rattlesnake’s strike. We say, all the better to tweet with! Prepare to be won over by her positive attitude and awesome interaction with fans.

@kevinlove Kevin Love, Basketball There’s more than just love coming from this Timberwolves’ Twitter feed. Kevin Love is all kinds of entertaining with a serious side of sarcasm. He’s also really good at basketball. And growing facial hair (more Twitpics surely to come).

@DaFlyinSquirrel Ellis Coleman, Wrestling Wrestler extraordinaire, aka the (da?) Flying Squirrel, is not bragging, just swaggin’. Get a day in the life through his candid and oftentimes hilarious Twitter feed.

@gabrielledoug Gabrielle Douglas, Gymnastics It’s not weird to follow a 16-year-old on Twitter, is it? This awe-inspiring gymnast is a 2012 darling and quite possibly the most upbeat Olympian online. (Insert emoticon here!)

@jordyn_wieber Jordyn Wieber, Gymnastics Watch out, Bieber — Wieber Fever is about to take the world by storm. The small-town world champ (also 16) is doing big things — and filling fans in every step of the way. Her crush? Bieber, of course.

@JohnW_Orozco John Orozco, Gymnastics There’s a lot to love about this Puerto Rican gymnast from the Bronx who heads to Twitter to inspire young fans, share his latest Facebook photo albums and favorite songs, and rep the Latino community as best he can.

@DianaLopez25 Diana Lopez, Taekwondo For the 28-year-old Taekwondo world champion, the Olympics are a family affair. Follow her and her brother Steven (also competing in Taekwondo) for the complete Lopez clan experience.

@kerrileewalsh Kerri Walsh, Beach Volleyball Along with her partner in crime @MistyMayTreanor, this beach volleyball supermom continues to take the beach volleyball scene by storm. Follow Walsh for every bump, set, and spike — and some wise words along the way.

@MattChrabot Matt Chrabot, Triathlon This “vagabond triathlete” isn’t afraid to quote Arnold and go out on a limb for Lebron. Follow along for inspiration, entertainment, and few surprising tips (garlic-loaded diet to keep mosquitoes away? It’s certainly worth a shot…).

@hopesolo Hope Solo, Soccer Inspired, honest, and always to the point, Hope Solo is a must-follow when it comes to keeping up with the unstoppable U.S. Women’s Soccer team. Bonus: She’s inspiring women everywhere with Nike’s Make Yourself campaign.

@alexmorgan13 Alex Morgan, Soccer Date night? Yoga? BBQs? It seems this rising soccer star has just as much fun off the pitch as she does zipping across it. Follow along to get one step closer to the quick-footed forward everyone’s been talking about (and not just because of that Sports Illustrated “swimsuit” spread).

@AMV15 Arielle Martin, BMX

Get up to date on the latest cycling buzz with this gutsy BMX racer. On the road to her first Olympic games, expect a whole lot of action shots, enthusiasm, and maybe a few backflips, too!
